“Planning is the most important step of the research and writing process. Without a good and realistic plan, your project will not be as successful as it can be.”
For my dissertation I need to begin by brainstorming possible topics, reflecting on personal interests, and outlining steps to find a compelling research question. After this week's research findings and ideation I will hopefully have an initial idea that I can continue with and shape into my dissertation.
One of the first steps in selecting a dissertation topic is identifying areas I’m passionate about. I began brainstorming about things in my life and branched out from there. This is only a little warm up exercise to get my brain ticking. Even though the majority of the below would not be a dissertation topic in any way - as I was doing this, I was realising the emotions and feelings that I had towards some of these areas - which are the exact emotions and feelings that I want to have towards my dissertation topic.
As an aspiring digital designer, I do have a big interest in that world. Interaction Design focuses on creating meaningful and effective interactions between humans and technology. I would love to choose a dissertation topic in this field as it would have a high interest to me. We had already completed an exercise in class like this which I knew was beneficial. Although I needed more time to really think and use my head to begin exploring areas of interest within interaction design.
After some just a simple brainstorm into interaction design I did find that there are some really interesting topics that I would love to research and write about. I started to take some of my points from above and getting potentials topics and ideas that could really be of some interest.
